This is a postmortem post, and yes, that wordplay amuses me, because I’m easily amused.
Anyway, we did a pitch workshop on the Discord* last Sunday, and I thought it went fairly well. But the point of these, for us at least, is to, you know, get better at doing them. So I have some thoughts below.
But first, I have an offer: if you’d like my help with YOUR pitch, we do offer paid consults. You send me your pitch, I read it, send you back notes and then, if you want, we can hop on a call to talk about it.
For you guys, 250.00 bucks. Shoot us an email at [email protected]
Right, filthy lucre grabbing out of the way. Back to the workshop:

Stuff we could do better
Well we could have a better plan for, uh, how we’re going to run it. It went okay, minus some technical difficulties, but I think we can do better.
I don’t need to read the Quickstart Guide to you guys. While that will be the information I cover, the whole reading thing is just a crutch - I KNOW this stuff, so we’ll probably do a slide presentation type thing while I free style it.
I used an example of a pitch I just finished, which was a good pitch (I think, at least) but was kind of a mid example, which I didn’t realize until I was teaching it. Next time, I’m going to do two pitches, one for a mini series and one for an ongoing, so you can see how to do both and I can talk about the differences.
Stuff that was good
People volunteered to have their pitches looked at live. That was awesome, and I hope I was helpful.
We cover a lot of stuff in two hours, and I think it was interesting and useful the whole way through.
Anyway, I think next time, and there will indeed be a next time, we’ll nail it. As is a running theme through Death Or Comics, sometimes the only way to learn is to do.
Thoughts, feedback, and nastygrams are welcome. Feel free to email or comment over on the Discord* server.
Until next time,
- Justin
